ChatGPT users tend to arrive with a specific question already answered, so their behavior on your page can look different, sometimes higher intent, sometimes a quick bounce because they already got what they needed.
- If a link inside a ChatGPT answer used UTM parameters (some publishers add them intentionally), that traffic will show up as its own source/medium and skip the guessing entirely. Consider tagging outbound links from your own content that you expect AI tools to cite.
How to track Perplexity referral traffic
Perplexity is one of the cleaner AI referrers because it consistently passes perplexity.ai as the referring domain, at least as of this writing. Add it to the same regex filter as ChatGPT and Gemini, but give it its own row in your report rather than lumping all AI sources into one bucket. Different assistants send different intent. In my experience, Perplexity traffic often behaves closer to classic organic search behavior (research mode) than ChatGPT traffic does (answer-seeking, sometimes done before they arrive).

You mostly can't, and that's by design.
